Terms of Service

Who this is for

Counsel is a job-search assistant, built and operated by one person and offered by invitation. It is not open to public sign-up: an account exists because it was invited. Each person gets their own account, and what is in it belongs to them.

Your account

An account is for one person. Do not share your password or your recovery code, and do not attempt to reach another account's data. Your content is encrypted with a key only your password unlocks, which is described in the privacy policy. One consequence is worth stating here as well: if you lose both your password and your recovery code, nobody can recover your content, including the operator.

What it produces

Counsel writes with a language model, and that output can be wrong. Evaluations are opinions, and generated resumes, cover letters and messages are drafts. Read and correct anything before it goes to another person, because it goes out over your name. Nothing is sent to anybody without you pressing send.

Third-party services

Counsel relies on Google (Gmail, Calendar and Drive, each optional and off until you connect it), Anthropic and Google for language models, and Vercel and Neon for hosting. Use of it is also subject to those providers' own terms. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them, nor by any employer whose job postings it stores.

No warranty

Counsel is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. The operator accepts no liability for any loss arising from its use, including from generated content, a message that was missed or filed wrongly, or data loss.

Changes and ending it

These terms may change, and the application may be modified or withdrawn. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your data rather than flagging it. If the service is being shut down you will be told in time to export what you want to keep.
